Exile and the Kingdom Albert Camus Books

I was reading an article about Camus and Algeria which referred to his stories in EXILE AND THE KINGDOM and realized ,I'd never read this book. Now that I have, I have to say it's a worthwhile but not an overwhelming experience. My favorite stories were the last two,Jonas and The Growing Stone. What distinguishes these stories is they have "meat".The other stories have an air of aridity to them. Many readers seem impressed by The Renegade, which is interesting .However it seems an exercise in exoticism and neurosis .The Adulterous Woman is a sketch about a dull woman's quasi awakening. The other two stories ,set in Algeria are okay but pretty inert. This is definitely not Camus at his best.

Exile and the Kingdom Albert Camus Books Reviews

Great!
I adore Camus and saw a recent film with Viggo Mortensen which used a short story from this collection.
I'm not much of a reader I have to admit, Like I tried reading game of thrones...insanely to many characters to keep track off lol I need visuals. But this book paints a picture were you feel like your there and I have only gotten into the first story becuase there is a few in this book and it is just great.
This volume of short fiction by Albert Camus is easy to read and very provoking. The stories contained are varied and unique, but the message is similar to all. Man lives in exile. He constantly searches for a path home, spiritually and in physical terms. This message can be chilling because exile means loss, primarily psychological. The realization of this void is what makes them worthwhile.
Not my favorite book by Camus as it is a collection of short stories
What a great collection! For those only familiar with The Stranger, this later representation of Camus' thought will come as a surprise. He is not at all the nihilist he's made out to be! If only he had lived a little longer, I'm sure we would have seen his work develop to its utmost.
bro camus is freakin genius readup holmes
